A long time leader of the ARF, Hrayr Maroukhian passed away on December 21, 1998.

He was in a coma since July 1994, when he suffered a brain aneurysm.

Maroukhian, with a group of colleagues, played a key role in the pursuit of the Armenian

Question and later in the struggle for the liberation of Karabagh.
