EDITORIAL: OUR ROOTS AND WINGS

"The Armenian Weekly", 2007 Year End Special Issue, Volume 73, No. 51-52, December 22-29, 2007

We at the Armenian Weekly and Hairenik Weekly are wrapping up 2007 and welcoming 2008 with a renewed commitment to our roots and work.

In spite of the challenges facing the Armenian media - and in particular the Hairenik Association - in 2007, we published a series of special issues and inserts alongside the regular issue. The special issues focused on the Armenian genocide, the parliamentary elections in Armenia, Armenian NGOs, the AYF Olympics and Armenian schools on the East Coast, and generated a great amount of interest and feedback from our readers. We promise to remain committed to improving the paper with every passing week, and to continue publishing more special issues throughout the year.

With this Christmas issue in magazine format, we have introduced yet another novelty to our readers. In this issue, we present a comprehensive review of the political and cultural developments both in Armenia and the diaspora during the past year. We also feature some some of our finest - old and new - staff writers, contributors and columnists.

With continued support and encouragement from you, our readers, we are confident that we will accomplish this new set of goals.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
