NOV. 21-22, 2008 • FALL FOOD FEST.
Hosted by the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church in
Worcester. Menu selections include shish, chicken, and losh
kebabs, as well as kheyma. Baked goods and country store
available throughout both days. Doors open on Friday at 4
p.m., with dinner served from 5-8 p.m.; on Saturday at 11
a.m., with dinner served from 12-4 p.m. At the church hall,

NOV. 21, 2008 • ‘BEYOND SOCCER DIPLOMACY.’ A panel
discussion on Armenian-Turkish relations featuring Prof.
Taner Akcam, Prof. Henry Theriault, and Khatchig Mouradian.
Presented by the Watson Institute of International Studies
at Brown University and the Armenian Cultural Association of
Rhode Island. Akçam earned his doctorate from the University
of Hannover with a dissertation on “The Turkish National
Movement and the Armenian Genocide against the Background of
the Military Tribunals in Istanbul Between 1919 and 1922.”
Since 1990, he has focused his attention on the Armenian
Genocide, with 11 books and numerous articles to his credit.
Theriault is associate professor of philosophy at Worcester
State College. His research focuses on genocide and human
rights, with particular emphasis on genocide denial and its
epistemological dimensions, the long term impact of genocide
and other mass violence, their ethical and political
implications, and mass violence against women. Mouradian has
presented papers on genocide and the media at several
academic conferences such as the 5th and 6th Workshops on
Armenian Turkish Scholarship, held at NYU in 2006 and at the
Graduate Institute in Geneva in 2008. The event is free and

NOV. 23, 2008 • NAASR TRIP TO NY MET MUSEUM. A bus
trip to the “Sunday at the Met” Armenian program. The bus
will depart from the NAASR Center in Belmont at 7:00 a.m.
Capacity is limited to 48. Dr. Christina Maranci, the
newly-appointed Arthur H. Dadian and Ara Oztemel professor
of Armenian Art and Architectural History at Tufts
University, will accompany the group and give a talk during
the ride. The program at the Met, organized by Dr. Helen
Evans, Mary and Michael Jaharis curator for Byzantine Art at
the Met, begins at 1:30 p.m. It will include talks by Dr.
Nina G. Garsoïan, Gevork Avedissian professor emerita of
Armenian History and Civilization, Columbia University; Dr.
Thomas Mathews, John Langloth Loeb professor emeritus of the
History of Art, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University;
and Dr. Lynn A. Jones, assistant professor, Department of
Art History, Florida State University. There will also be a
performance by Nora Armani of Armenian poems and songs
accompanied by David Bakamjian on the cello. The price for
the daytrip is $100 per person (includes transportation,
admission to the museum, and continental breakfast and

NOV. 28, 2008 • ALMA HOLIDAY GALA. The Armenian
Library and Museum of America (ALMA) will hold its third
Holiday Gala at the grand Seaport Hotel at 6:30 p.m. The
Gala will feature a hosted cocktail reception with bountiful
hors d’oeuvres, a three-course dinner with wine, an
impressive live auction with a celebrity auctioneer, a
surprise raffle and Armenian as well as non-Armenian
dancing. The ensemble of Armenian band members includes:
Harry Bedrosian (keyboard and vocals), Kenny Kalajian
(guitar), Bruce Gigarjian (dumbeg), David Hoplamazian
(violin) and Joe Kouyoumjian (oud). Proceeds from the Gala
will benefit ALMA’s commitment to perpetuate the Armenian

seldom-seen slides of Armenia by Joe Dagdigian. Dinner and

the anniversary of the Lowell “Aharonian” Gomideh. Tickets
